McConnel is to break into exciting new territory with the launch of its first ever self-propelled crop sprayer.
The low-ground pressure Agribuggy A280 will complement McConnel’s growing range of arable and grassland machinery and enable the company to offer farmers and contractors a full range of crop establishment and crop management products.
Designed and built by McConnel’s sister company - sprayer specialist Kellands - the Agribuggy will now be available through McConnel’s extensive UK and worldwide dealer network - opening up new opportunities with a wider international customer base.
Precision-engineered in the UK, the Agribuggy offers the highest power-to-weight ratio and lowest fuel consumption in its class, and can reach places other machines can’t thanks to the outstanding traction delivered by its low-ground pressure design and positive mechanical drive.
Key features of the machine include:
- A high-performance Cummins diesel engine delivers greater power and higher torque at low revs and ensures the Agribuggy A280 still offers the best fuel-economy and power-to-weight ratio on the market. By dispensing with a cam-belt the engine also delivers lower servicing and maintenance costs
- A positive mechanical drive system delivers greater torque and grip, less wheel-spin, and power transfer up to 25 per cent more efficient than a hydrostatic machine
- A new style ‘Comfort Cab’ with 360-degree visibility, tinted glass, an air-suspension KAB seat with full lumbar support, and greater space, visibility and safety
- An ergonomic ‘floating’ control console moves with the motion of the seat and has been laid out for comfort and ease of use with a high-definition 7-inch full-colour display
- A multifunction joystick ensures precise fingertip control of four-wheel steering, cruise control, master sprayer controls, and manual override of the automatic transmission
- Outstanding fuel efficiency. Average consumption is around 70 litres-a-day compared with between 150 and 200 litres per day for large hydrostatic sprayers
- A new cruise control system improves fuel economy and reduces operator input
- Generous height clearance of 750mm when fitted with large-diameter row-crop wheels, which ensure a large surface contact area for maximum flotation and minimal crop damage
- Low centre of gravity and perfect 50/50 weight distribution for maximum stability and traction
- Aluminium booms as standard for strength and longevity while maintaining lightness and stability. Booms are available with up to 30m working widths
- A 2,700 litre tank capacity with a gel-coated inner lining for easy-cleaning
- And speeds of up to 50 km/h reducing downtime getting to and from jobs and potentially increasing the size of an operator’s working patch.

The machine will be previewed for the first time at the Irish National Ploughing championships at Screggan, County Offaly on September 19th 2017. It will be on display at Kverneland Ireland’s stand (Block 4 Row 15 Stand 338). The official UK launch of the McConnel Agribuggy will take place at LAMMA 2018.
