Steve ‘Poker’ Sumner has been crowned McConnel’s king of karting after a sizzling drive at the company’s ‘Grand Prix’ meeting at the Herefordshire Raceway Circuit.
Welder Steve shone in the sunshine - then reigned in the rain as a late downpour turned the track into a skidpan and made driving conditions incredibly challenging.
He took the chequered flag a full 15 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, engineer Joe Souler, while marketing manager Wayne Brown joined them on the podium for third.
More than 30 employees took part in the event with warranty officer Hazel Morris narrowly edging sales office manager Michelle Mann for the ladies title.
The top 10 finishers were:
1. Steve Sumner
2. Joe Souler
3. Wayne Brown
4. Simon Pattrick
5. Craig Parkes
6. Simon Vickers
7. Jeremy Holder
8. John Frank
9. Noll Farmer
10. Gareth Jones
Steve said: “It was a really enjoyable and challenging event which brought everyone together. I was proud to hold on in treacherous conditions and win.”
