One of McConnel’s longest-serving employees has said goodbye to the business after a career spanning six decades.
Mervyn Hughes, (pictured front centre), joined the company back in 1969 and has played a key role in making the components for many of McConnel’s most iconic machines.
In retirement Mervyn plans to swap the flame cutter he works on for something even hotter – the world’s most famous volcano.
A keen amateur volcanologist, Mervyn plans to start his new life with a dream trip to Mount Vesuvius.
He said: “I have always been fascinated by volcanoes and am really looking forward to seeing Vesuvius for myself. I will miss my friends and colleagues at McConnel and wish them all the very best for the future.”
