"To switch things up, for this weeks #FlashbackFriday we're bringing you a mini album dedicated to the McConnel saw bench, alongside a few facts for you! • Though the company is better known for our power arms, the Sawbench easily outsold the early hedgecutters and was a key factor in McConnel’s rise after the war. • Its importance is still acknowledged today – though only a few realise it – the McConnel logo was derived from the sawbench! • The sawbench won McConnel’s first major award – a silver medal from the Royal Agricultural Society in Scotland (1948). It was a mainstay of the McConnel product range from 1948 until it finally went out of production in the 80s. We still receives enquiries about it today, and many old models are still selling on the internet and ebay. • Because of the post-war raw materials shortage, the government was keen to encourage manufacturing companies to use military surplus wherever possible. It led to the very first saw benches using wheels built for the Spitfire! The bench was designed for easy transport and could fit onto a tractor’s three point linkage. It could rip-cut and cross-cut and allowed users to cut any length of wood. Scroll through these photos from our archive to see various photos of the sawbench over the years 👍💪😁 #History #Agriculture #Sawbench"
